SLA (Stereolithography)

DLP (Digital Light Processing)

EBM (Electronic Beam Melting)

EBM (Electronic Beam Melting) is very similar to SLS (Selective Laser Sintering). This technology uses an electron beam instead of a laser beam. This process is slower and more expensive than SLS technology.

  • PLA (Polylactic Acid) - PLA (Polylactic Acid) is derived from renewable resources such as starch or sugarcane. It tends to deteriorate after prolonged exposure to sunlight or excessive moisture. So this material is used for indoor applications not outdoor applications.
  • ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) - ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) is a thermoplastic polymer. ABS requires a lot of heat to be setup. Hence it is suitable for enclosed 3D printer.
  • PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate) - PET stand for Polyethylene Terephthalate and G means it's been Glycol modified. It is a food safe plastic. It is more flexible than PLA or ABS.
  • Resin - There are different types of resins used for different works. Medical-grade resin is used for medical purpose. Standard resin is best for printing small objects and prototypes. For different professional and engineering works tough resin is used.

Filament comes in mainly two diameters : 1.75mm and  3mm. 1.75mm diameter filament is quicker to heat-up. The printer is designed for one size filament. So it is not possible to mix different sizes without changing the hot end and extruder. 

Nozzle Size

Most machines comes with 0.4mm nozzle size but nozzle of 0.3mm size becoming more popular.

Layer Height

Layer height means how thick the each layer is. The common layer height is 0.15mm or 0.2 mm. The layer height is adjustable.
